Decorating: Welcoming Holiday Guests to Your Home - Free Press ...

Holiday decorating is a great way to pull out some lost treasures that you've hidden away in a closet, so does opening that kitchen cabinet above the refrigerator or boxes stashed in the attic/basement. . During the Holiday season, we know we'll be inviting lots of guests to visit for a meal or intimate gatherings with a few or lots of people and we are more inspired to decorate our home on holiday season.

Decorating has been a holiday tradition for many families and whilst it may take some time, it shouldn't involve spending lots of money. You can pick up some holiday greens at a local nursery, find a good pair of snips in your gardening bucket and start combining the old with the new for some of these wonderful displays.

Decorating with Natural Greenery

We are lucky if we have a large yard with an assortment of evergreens because we can just snip from it each year as our decoration. However you just need to visit your favorite nursery if you don't have a bigger yard. Most of the time, a nursery conducts decorating workshop where you can see first - hand how easy it is to arrange things old and new, with a bow tucked in here or there. Get on their mailing list and sign up for that workshop.

In decorating, several different evergreens for texture is crucial then you may add an assortment of leaves (cranberries and gold leaves would do which you can buy at your local crafts store) or colored ribbon. Candles are also a great way to add a splash of color to an arrangement and especially when you've got some gorgeous candlesticks you can pull out of a cabinet and show off each year.

Handy Tip:

Ribbon is a wonderful way to add accent color(s) to your holiday decorating. By collecting other ornaments in neutral colors like white, silver, gold and clear glass, you can easily switch from red, to purple or a potpourri each year. Save money by picking up holiday ribbons after they go on sale. The ones with wire edging work best to get the exact shapes you want.

Consider finding someone willing to come to your home and work side-by-side, teach you how to decorate your home, if you're hesitant to decorate. Learn some decorating tips and gain insight into how decorators work. You could practice decorating even if it is not the holidays, after all you can decorate your home anytime. Ask for feedback from your family members, they are your first critics. Involve your family members in the decorating - it could be your extra time to bond with your children.
