Craft: Apples and Angry Birds
How do you take a piece of white poster board cut in the shape of an apple and turn it into something cool enough to wow your 5 year old kindergartener? Each month, our kindergarten classes get to do a Family Art Project. The teachers provide a poster board shape and the families get to work together to create the most amazing masterpiece. The creations are then proudly displayed on the kindergarten hall for all to see. This is a very special part of kindergarten at Hustonville Elementary.
We puzzled over this for days. I did google searches, thought about the different craft mediums, (paint, glitter, aluminum foil, construction paper, markers?..) ? but nothing just did the trick.
Then my 10 year old had a brilliant idea! Let?s make the apple into an Angry Bird! That was an instant hit!
We headed into Michaels to pick up some foam. At .89 per sheet and googly eyes for less than a dollar, this was a great idea as well as a frugal craft.
Materials Used
Sheets of Craft Foam (less than $1.00 each)
Used red, black, tan, orange
Googly Eyes
Hot glue gun
Magnet strips
Cup to trace round circles for small birds
Then the rest of the fun began
The kids decided we had plenty of craft foam, we should make a whole collection of angry birds!
We attached a magnet to the back of the birds. Now they have a featured spot on our refrigerator.
Ever made anything fun out of craft foam? I?d love to hear your experiences or see your creations!
